Sports Math

Sports math activities: Inflated soccer ball, football, and bicycle tires. Record beginning pressure and inflate to full pressure for each item. Use chart. Throw a football 3 times. Measure and record distance thrown in yards. Bonus: Calculate average distance thrown  (Throw 1 + throw 2 + throw 3 + sum.  Sum divided by 3 =Average distance thrown. Record wins and losses of 3 teams in a sports league (MLS, MLB, NBA, WNBA, NFL). How many games ahead is the top team over the 2nd place team? The 3rd place team? Run from one telephone pole to the next and record how many seconds it took you.  Do it 3 times and record your 3 times. Jump rope. How many jumps can you do in a row in 1 minute.  How many cross-armed jumps can you do successfully in a row? How many 1-foot jumps can you do in a row?

Grocery Store Math

There are many ways to practice math in a grocery store. Comparing the price of 2 items of the same weight. Running cart total on a calculator. Comparing unit price of 2 sizes of the same item. Buying snacks on a budget. Sugar content (per serving) of two different yogurts or cereals.
